Gonzo (Houston, Texas)
The pianist, percussionist, and DJ was born and raised in El Callao, Peru. At the age of 16, he moved to New York City. He studied music at Queens College Music School and learned Latin percussion at Boys Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts located in El Barrio, NYC. His musical studies helped him develop an eclectic taste, and led him to the authentic Salsa Vieja sound for which he is known. In 1999, he joined the US Army and had the opportunity to travel the world. He left the Army in 2006 and went on to study Computer Engineering Technology at the University of Houston.
DJ Gonzo's unique style and soundly rich music selection has made him one of the favorite and top Salsa DJs in Texas. He is the creator of “DJ Gonzo's Viejoteca,” being the only Salsa DJ in Texas to play real Salsa/Mambo vinyl records. He also created www.djgonzo.com, and has an iPhone application called "Radio Gonzo" which plays only danceable Salsa hits 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
